Our Evenings on the Board Walk

 Every evening after our events we would eat dinner and spend the rest of the evening on the board walk.

 The boys and I doing our silly faces. The board walk at Pacific Beach was exactly what I imagined it to be. I loved the old white wooden roller coaster and the Merry-Go-Round.

 Talan and I loved spending the evenings looking for seashells that had washed ashore.

 

I think we have enough seashells for all the kids in Utah but we found a bunch of pretty ones. We even found a whole sand dollar.

 

Jason combed the beach looking for the biggest seaweed he could find.

 Lincoln spent the evenings pretending to be a train and running down the tire tracks made by the lifeguard trucks.

 I love that you can still see the footprints behind us. I loved these quite evenings with my family.

One evening we walked all the way down to the pier and the boys had fun climbing on the giant rocks.

Every night we would stop and watch the sun go down over the waves and the surfers enjoying the last few waves of the day. I wish I could wind down every day with a leisurely walk down the beach. I would be in heaven and so would my boys.

Old Point Loma

While we were on the USS Midway Captain Joe told us that we needed to visit Point Loma and see the old light house. We hurried out and we got there just an hour before it closed. I am so glad we made it was one of my favorite places we visited in San Diego.

The signs said that Point Loma is a great place to whale watch in the spring, to bad it was October. It would have been neat to see some whales.

 

We might not have seen any whales but we did get to see a submarine surface.

I absolutely love this old lighthouse. It made me feel like I was visiting Maine.

Lincoln was determined to look through this telescope.

Not only did Talan earn his wings today but he also became a Cabrillo Jr Ranger.

Just below Point Loma is this Naval Cemetery. I could not believe all the headstones. They go as far as the eye can see and they go down both sides of the road. It made me truly grateful to all those service members who gave their lives for my freedom.

It was the most peaceful cemetery I have ever visited. You had the cool ocean breeze and the sound of the wave crashing against the rocks. I just might have to enlist so that this beautiful place can be my final resting place. It was that beautiful.

USS Midway

Ashley told us about how much fun they had visiting the USS Midway, so we made sure to stop in while we were in San Diego.

We got there a few minutes before it opened so we walked around the dock to see all the ships.

This is Air Force Caption Joe. We met him while waiting in line to enter the boat. He liked my boys so much that he took our family on a private tour of the boat and shared many interesting stories with us.

After our tour with Captain Joe we walked around some more and listened to the different stories and facts that they had posted around the boat. You would simply type in the number on your headset and it would tell you what you were looking at.

I don't know how the service men could live in such tight quarters for such long periods of time. I would have went crazy.

If Talan listened to all the stories and filled out a worksheet he could earn himself a set of wings.

And if I was ever to fly the plane we just might be needing these ejection seats.

Lincoln was more excited to fly the helicopter. He love helicopters and almost always has one with him.

I was laughing so hard, Linx picked up this phone and said "Hello, Sodor?"

Lincoln was so excited to go into this helicopter he walked over to the window and keep asking me to take his picture.

We couldn't get in the air so we just took another picture.

Good thing Jason was never in the service, he would have a sore neck from having to bend over all the time.

Lincoln also got his wings with a little help from dad.

Lincoln thought that balancing the wings on his head was much more fun than having them pinned to your shirt.

We had such a great time on the USS Midway. It took us about 3 hours to see all the boat and learn about what it did. I am so thankful for all the US Service men and woman who do so much for our country.
